Who’s afraid of Country?

How can non-Indigenous writers articulate their relationships with place in respectful, authentic and informed ways?

Following high demand for the 2025 workshop, this is an online, 3-week short course for non-Indigenous writers at any level of experience, and also welcomes those without a regular writing practice who are comfortable with written expression. Its purpose is to guide, generate and share responses to the sovereign land where we live, have grown up, made families or arrived.

Through a series of live prompts, research, reflection and discussion we will use writing as our primary tool of learning; considering how image, metaphor, story, voice and vocabulary are important elements in how we think about our own life narratives and cultural identities as a starting point for writing with place – and taking responsibility for it.

This course will offer weekly resources for further research and respectful information-seeking about the histories of the places where we live.
