Writing women’s stories
This is an online workshop focused on participants’ own current projects or processes of writing women’s lived experiences including their own. It will centre on sharing and group critical discussion of participants’ creative drafts with the purpose of advancing existing work through peer and facilitator feedback. In addition to draft workshopping we will also undertake writing prompts around form and voice, to offer new stylistic and narrative perspectives on our own work.
It is suited to writers at any level of experience, who are beginning or sustaining a project of any scale or genre which engages with research, representation and crafting of women’s stories. This may include life writing projects such as memoir or biography; nonfiction or documentary poetry; historical fiction; essay; and more. The workshop theme attends to the historical marginalisation of women’s stories within patriarchal cultures, and the women’s stories that sit outside those privileged by ethnicity, sexuality and class.
This workshop is for any writer who identifies as female. It is trans- and queer-positive, and non-binary writers who are interested to engage with narratives of female gender experiences are warmly welcomed.
