Who’s afraid of Country? was an online workshop for non-Indigenous Australian writers held in October, 2025. Gathering a fully booked group of writers, researchers and readers from across wide range of locations and backgrounds, this workshop advanced questions and discussions of finding authentic relationships with sovereign land without appropriating Indigeneity. Using writing as a tool for articulating this relationship, the group investigated the individual backstories and way of knowing they bring to where they live, and how Country shapes and directs their purpose and needs as writers and as humans. Protocols and guidance towards respectful representation of Country, history, language and identity rounded out this workshop. A portion of profits were donated to Nalderun Aboriginal Education on Dja Dja Wurrung Country.
An extended iteration of this workshop will be offered in 2026 as an online short course for writers. Sign up to the mailing list below, or contact Bonny directly to receive updates.
